Nursing is an art, similar to basketball. As a nurse, you need to persevere and have the desire to be better for your patients, yourself, and the rest of the healthcare team. Each person on the team has a specific role based on their qualifications. One person can’t do it without the other to achieve the common goal in mind, which is to provide quality patient care.
Nursing is similar to basketball, where each individual team player needs to persevere and have the desire to be better. Despite everyone’s various roles on the team, they have the same goal as well, to win a championship. Many people recognize Michael Jordan for his accomplishments, but we can’t forget the help he received from his teammates to make it happen.
I really appreciate the piece you chose Munib. Being a fan of basketball myself and having watched The Last Dance series, I have a much deeper respect for the game, but also the theoretical structure of teamwork itself. Within every domain of healthcare, all staff including nurses, have their specific role. And in order for every healthcare system to be successful and report positive patents outcomes, all individual team members must do their part for the collective unit to thrive. As a student nurse, I feel empowered; my perspective on the role and identity of “the nurse” has shifted over the last several months and I am proud to be embarking on this journey.
Munib, what an interesting analogy and illustration. I never would have looked at it from that perspective, but it makes great sense when we think about the importance of the entire team to meeting the patient’s goals. Nice job!
Munib,
I love that you are comparing nursing to basketball, and sports in general. Teamwork is a vital aspect of nursing, without being able to work with and for other nurses the team will not be successful as a whole. Maybe the person who shoots and makes the winning shot or basket is the ne who gets all the glory, or maybe the physician who intubated the patient, but he didnt get there without the nurse who also provided life saving interventions, or in sports term “made the assist.” Being able to work as a team and know your role, and how even the smallest task can be vital for the patient care as a whole, will result in well rounded, successful patient care.
Thanks for sharing!
Munib, I really like the connection you made between nursing and basketball. When you explained the picture and went into further detail, I easily understood the connection you were making. I would agree that nursing and healthcare in general is a team effort to provide the best care to patients. My connection is similar in the aspects it takes to be a great nurse all coming together to provide optimal care. Overall, great connection and photo choice!
I completely agree with your point on nursing being a team sport. Working together to accomplish a common goal of patient care is a great point. I liked how you addressed the various roles there are on the ‘team’ and how they must all come together in order for to win the ‘championship’. Nurses definitely work with a wide variety of other health care providers, as well as managing multiple tasks themselves. It is a difficult but very important position to have.
Munib, I think your analogy is very interesting! I like the way you made the connection between basketball and nursing. They seem so different, yet share many similarities. I think there are other things that we could compare to nursing that most people would overlook, such as working at a restaurant. We could say that the various roles in this type of work environment can be similar to working in a hospital. Great post!
