One of the objectives in this course is to demonstrate knowledge and skill in utilizing research evidence for nursing practice. How my partner and I plan to accomplish this project is to develop a PICOT question for the topic of interest. Once that’s determined, we need to use reputable primary and tertiary literature to support or not support our PICOT question. Since it’s just two of us working on this project, communication shouldn’t be as difficult. We plan to communicate in person, Facebook, text, or zoom. Communication is the key to be successful. If there are any issues, we hope to acknowledge amongst ourselves appropriately. If all communications fail, then we plan to report our concerns to a higher authority (our professor). The benefits of this project are that it helps us learn how to navigate and search for proper answers. The barriers of this project are that it can be very time consuming and stressful to sift through various journals and studies. This project is useful in our future nursing practice because it equips us with vital research skills, which can directly impact the way we practice as nurses, but more importantly, our patient’s outcomes.
Munib, you touched upon the benefits and barriers of the project as well as usefulness of the project for future nursing practice. What about completion of the project as a team, rather than as an individual? What do you foresee as benefits/barriers with completion of the project as a team, and how do you see this team process benefiting future nursing practice?
The benefit of completing this project as a team is there’ll be another set of eyes to find literature, validate resources, and to help complete the project quicker. My teammate will be able to challenge me with questions that can prepare me for future nursing practice. Ironically, the pandemic is a benefit for the completion of this project. It forced us to learn how to use Zoom, which is a great platform to collaborate during our busy schedules from anywhere. Some barriers might be poor communication and goal planning. Although, since the team consists of the two of us, I believe those barriers may not be much of an issue.
