Appraisal and Synthesis

Proning a patient can be a risky maneuver and can be difficult if facilities don’t have the proper resources to do it. Through evidence appraisal and synthesis, I’ve learned it’s essential to identify acute respiratory disease syndrome (ARDS) patients as soon as possible. If identified soon enough, it’s recommended to prone patients for at least 12 hours. A possible risk that comes with proning patients is ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). With the likelihood of antibiotic resistance to be more prevalent in the future, it’s wise to consider the risk and benefits to proning patients in the future. With advancements of biotechnology, there may be earlier identification of ARDS, which may promote proning patients sooner. My teammate and I came up with similar conclusions about the findings. If there were disagreements, I’m sure we would’ve listened to each others point of views and learned from it.
