Audio Project

This audio project discusses the most impactful learning moment in my nursing career. I stepped up to help out Island Nursing Home in Deer Isle, Maine. The nursing home was struck by COVID, where all of the 62 residents were sickened by COVID – 15 of them fatally – along with 38 staff members. I go into detail about what I learned, did, and reflected on during my time there.

  1. I really enjoyed learning about the ways you applied your course work to your experience working at the nursing home. Your specific examples of transfer of knowledge from your course work to your service at the nursing home helped me to learn about a nurse’s viewpoint when administering care. I am sure your attention to that patient’s physical and mental health were a comfort to both patients and staff. I also liked that you noted the importance of empathy and self-care for you. Thanks for sharing your experience, Munib!

  2. Munib, this is a thoughtful reflection on application of what you’ve learned in the nursing program thus far in terms of technical skills, critical thinking/clinical judgment, collaboration, and compassionate care of self and others. Although not explicitly mentioned, you also describe application of evidence-based practices. Your oral narrative exemplifies synthesis of your learning and the qualities you will bring forward to your future nursing practice. Well done!
